What Should Be Done While Wisdom Teeth Removal In Adults?

The procedure in which the patient goes through a surgery to remove or extract one or more wisdom teeth is known as wisdom teeth removal. Firstly, lets figure out which teeth are called the wisdom teeth. Those teeth are the four permanent teeth in adults which are located just at the back corners in the mouth, two on the top jaw and two on the bottom jaw.

In some cases, it is seen that adults do not have space in their mouth for letting the wisdom teeth grow. This results in infection, some sort of dental problem and also pain. So, the teeth need to be removed or extracted from the base itself. This procedure called the wisdom teeth removal or surgery is done by none other than a dentist or a dental surgeon.

In some cases, it is seen that to prevent any sort of future problems, some of the surgeons and dentists suggest for the removal of the wisdom tooth even when there is no other problems related to the impacted teeth. In the mouth of an adult, the wisdom teeth are the last permanent teeth to appear. These are also known as the third molars. These slowly appear between the ages of 17 years to 25 years. There are some rare cases as well where adults never develop these third molars or rather called the wisdom teeth. On the other hand, in normal cases these wisdom teeth appear normally, similar to the other molars, causing no pain and no problem.

There are some people who develop an impacted wisdom tooth. This simply means that the wisdom tooth did not get enough space to erupt so they either erupt partially or does not erupt at all. Some of the facts about impacted wisdom tooth are mentioned below:
  • They grow in an angle bending towards the second molar also known as the next tooth.
  • They could also grow at a right angle to the closest teeth. It looked like the tooth is lying down on the jawbone.
  • They could also grow in an angle which is at the back of the mouth.
  • Lastly, these wisdom teeth could grow straight upwards or even downwards just similar to the normal teeth, but it remains trapped in the jawbone.

What Are The Various Problems That Are Faced During The Wisdom Teeth Removal?

When the wisdom teeth removal procedure takes place then it is likely to result in some problems. Those problems are stated below:
  • Some sort of infection
  • Pain that could not be bearable
  • Trapping of food particles at the back of wisdom tooth
  • Gum diseases
  • Sometimes the tooth may decay, usually happens when the tooth partially erupts
  • Develop cyst which is basically sacs of filled fluid in and around the wisdom teeth
  • Damage to some parts and portions of the nearby tooth or even the surrounding bone
  • Creates complications and problem for the other straight teeth while the orthodontic treatment takes place

Some Risks Involved In The Wisdom Teeth Removal

The procedure of wisdom teeth removal does involve a lot of complications. When this procedure is done in the mouth of an adult then at first an incision is made in tissue present in the gums.
  • It may cause damage to the nearby teeth, sinuses, some of the nerves and jawbone
  • The socket may become dry and also extremely painful
  • The trapped food molecules may cause infection in the entire socket
  • A bacterial infection could also be a part of the risks involved
  • Blood may clot at the wound site after the surgery is complete
