Difference between residential and commercial air conditioning

Residential and commercial air conditioning systems are installed in order to cool the area where they are installed. The components and mechanisms used in both of them have a lot of differences. In the case of residential air-conditioning, parts are small as the AC has to cool a small area. Large areas need to be cooled so parts are large. The cooling process of both of them is also different. In this article, we will deal with various aspects of both the systems and differences between them.

Size

The size of residential AC is much smaller than that of the commercial one. This is so because the areas need to be cooled by a residential air conditioner is small. Comparatively, commercial air conditioning is large because of the size of the area that it has to cool. There are many components installed the air conditioning systems and these include thermostat, fan, condenser, evaporator, compressor, damper, and blower. The amount of power consumption also varies depending on the size and use.

Placement

The residential air conditioning is installed in the backyard of the house. The commercial air-conditioning is installed in the swamp coolers available in different rooms. The system can also be installed on the roof and the reasons for this are as follows.

  • In order to save the space, the system is installed in the roof.
  • Noise pollution can be eliminated with such an installation.
  • Maintenance is easy as work is not hampered when replacement or repairing is being done.

Complexity

The structure of both types of air-conditioning differs. Commercial air conditioning can be adjusted easily as it depends on the type of building where it is being installed. It also depends on usage as in some parts they can be used occasionally while in other regular usage is needed. There are many other factors on which the installation of the commercial AC depends, and these include manufacturing or selling the products or other types of usage. There are the reasons that commercial AC is more complicated in comparison to the residential ones.

Drainage

The size of the drainage system in commercial air conditioning is also larger than the residential one. The area to be cooled by the residential AC is much smaller than that of the commercial one, the single pan is installed where all the water drains out. In the case of commercial AC, multiple pipes are installed, and so multiple pans also need to be installed for drainage.

Mechanism

The mechanism of both the air-conditioning differs and the difference is based in the place where they are installed. The residential ones are available in the form of a single machine while the commercial one is available in modular form. All parts of the commercial AC are installed together to make the maintenance, replacement, and repair easy. The residential ones are mostly split and there is no scope of expansion.

Equipment

Commercial air conditioning is used to for heating in winter and cooling in the summer season. Humidity and temperature control are much more needed in the commercial building than in the residential building. So, the equipment is complex in the commercial one.

Cost of maintenance

The cost of maintenance of commercial AC is more because it is a complex system and has many parts, which need to be maintained. Also, the brand you choose will decide how much you will need to spend on maintenance later.

These are some of the differences between commercial AC and residential AC. Mostly both of them are installed for similar purpose bit commercial AC is a very complex system whose installation and maintenance cost are more than that of residential AC. You need to install the correct model at your commercial areas.

  1. The residential air conditioners are not heavy duty however commercial air conditioning repairs are tricky and only need to be handled by experts.
